First Adobe Youth Voices Summit 2009

The Adobe Foundation, a global philanthropy organization based in the United States, has invited one teacher and two students, who participated in Adobe Online Course, to participate the First Adobe Youth Voices Summit an educational conference to be held in Palo Alto, California, USA, from July 29 to August 2, 2009. The Summit is list the name of Mr. Adel Hamouda Bayoumi-English Senior Teacher, Madonna Hany Halim and Amany Korany Hussien from Old Bani Suef Secondary School for Girls.
The Study Tour Program 2009
The Center for Global studies (CGS) in collaboration with The Egyptian Association for Educational Resources (E-ERA) organized an exchange program for nine American students and two teachers from February 11th to February 24th, 2009.The main objective of the program is to develop bridges of understanding between the Egyptian and the American societies through Creating an open and healthy learning environment where the Americans learn about the Egyptians daily life, traditions, habits and culture through living with typical Egyptian families for two weeks, visiting old and modern places in Cairo and Interacting with different social classes.
The program started with a welcoming reception at the American Embassy where they were given a short orientation about the services, types of jobs and information about the American Embassy in Egypt.The program included many tours around Egypt. They visited the Egyptian Museum, Pyramids, Islamic& Coptic Cairo, Khan El Khalili, Basysa and Alexandria. The Students had a one day visit to another school in Egypt called “New Ramses College”. The Egyptian students taught the Americans how to do an Egyptian Meal called “Koshary”, then they had a short Arabic class where every student was able to write his name in the old Egyptian language. Finally they played together some games and joint activities.
On the Other hand, the students made a lot of Community Service activities. They have been to St.Andrew‘s Refugee ministry where they knew more information about the refugees and played a football match with the children. The students also went to the 57357 Cancer hospital. They played with the children and joined them in a small party that was held in the hospital at the time of the visit.The Program ended with a farewell dinner.
Training of Trainers
One of the main pillars of the Egyptian Association for Educational Resources is Training and Development, that’s why E-ERA held a TOT training from the 3rd to 5th Feb, 2009 in E-ERA office. This training was held by Mr.Ahmed AbdEl Satar, E-ERA trainer for 10 trainees. The main goal is to train them on “How to Design Effective Training Programs” to prepare a pool of effective trainers equipped with all the necessary skills and abilities.
iEARN Beginners Workshops
On the 8th Feb and 18th, 19th Feb, 2009, an iEARN beginners workshop was held at Delta International school by Mr. Ahmed Abdel Sattar, Master Trainer and English Teacher in El Mansoura Secondary School . The trainees were 22 teachers from the school. The training covered the following topics:
- Principles of Teaching and Learning
- Affective objectives, the neglected domain
- Strategic Planning & Action Plans
- Reflective Teaching & Action Research
- iEARN Online Collaboration
- Project-Based Learning
On the 25th Feb, 2009, an iEARN beginners workshop was held at Ecole Oasis Internationale by Mr. Ahmed Abdel Sattar. The trainees were 8 teachers from the school.
Based on the request of the school, the iEARN Orientation was conducted over one day with focus on the major points which was a brief about iEARN projects and interactive forums.
Adobe Youth Voices Workshops
The First Workshop was held on the 9th of February, 2009 in El Delta International School – El Dakahlia. The workshop was held by Ms. Sahar Farouk Gad – Trainer and Quality & Training Unit Supervisor in Zahran Experimental Language School. The Participants of the workshop were two school principals from Dakahlia and 5 Teachers from 4
schools in Dakahlia. The schools are:
- El Fardous Experimental Language School
- Delta International School
- Aga Secondary School for Girls
- El Mansoura Experimental Language School
Also 2 teachers from 2 schools in Alex attended the workshop. The 2 schools are:
- El Fdaly Experimental Language School
- Zahran Experimental Language School
The workshop was under the supervision of the Educational PC Supervision at the Dakahlia Educational Zone.
The Second Workshop was held on the 18th February, 2009 in Asmaa Bent Abi Bakr Preparatory School for Girls ” Assiut. The Workshop was held by Mr.Adel Hamouda, E-ERA Trainer.The Participants of the workshop were two principals and 2 Teachers from 4 schools in Assiut, the schools are:
- Asmaa Bent Abi Bakr Preparatory School for Girls
- Taha Hanfi Preparatory School
Also 2 teachers from 2 schools in Sohag, the schools are:
- Experimental Language Smart School
- Omar Abn Abdel Aziz Secondary School
And 2 teachers from 2 schools in Bani Seuf, the schools are:
- Old Bani Seuf Secondary School
- El Shourok Experimental School
And two school principals from Bani Suef
The workshop was also under the supervision of the Educational PC Supervision at the Assiut Educational Zone.
The two workshops were based on training the teachers to log onto the Adobe link and the iEARN website. The participants were enthusiastic to discover the philosophy of Adobe and movie making. There was a lot of discussion about the importance of culture exchange and empowering youth.
Video conference for Between Me and You Competition
E-ERA held a video conference in the Ministry of Education on February, 16th to raise awareness on “Between Me and You Competition”. The lecturer was Mrs.Dalia Khalil, E-ERA director. The Session talked about the objectives and the guidelines for participation in the competition. The Participants of the video conference were from different governorates around Egypt.
People to People Celebration
In co-operation with Abercrombie and Kent and People to People International , the Egyptian Association for Educational Resources organized the ambassador program which was held from the 4th to 17th November, 2008.The ambassador program welcomed a group of specialists in the medical and law fields for two weeks. On that Occasion, The Egyptian Association for educational resources organized a celebration on 16th Feb, 2009 in the American Embassy in Cairo and another celebration on the 24th of March, 2009 in the American Center in Alexandria for all the individuals, organizations and specialists who participated and shared in this program. Ms.Dalia Khalil, E-ERA director handled them certificates and silver plates as an appreciation for all the efforts being exerted in that program.
Yella Trainings
The first Yella Training was at El Ryada Language School on Feb. 19, 2009 by Mrs.Ghada El Degwy, E-ERA trainer. The Second training was at Future Language school-El Rehab on March 3rd,2009 by Ms.Shimaa Atef, Local Youth Representative in iEARN Egypt Students’ Board. The two trainings were about Introduction to iEARN and Leadership skills.
Video Conference Medical and Scientific Encyclopedia
- February, 24th E-ERA held a video conference to raise awareness on “Aids”. The sessions involved a specialist, Dr. Hossam Mostafa Fahmy, Professor of Immunology, Ain Shams University
- March, 8th E-ERA held a video conference to raise awareness on “Space telescopes”. The sessions involved a specialist, Dr. Mostafa Ibrahim Fahmy, Professor in the Medical Military Academy and a member in one of the Supreme Council of Culture committees.
The events were sponsored by Ministry of Education and Supreme Council of Culture. The participation of the events was focused on the preparatory and secondary schools all over Egypt.
The BIG READ
First Session:
On the occasion of launching BIG READ Egypt/US events, the Egyptian Association for Educational Resources (E-ERA) organized a special gathering on March 2nd, 2009 in Marriot Hotel in Zamalek under the topic “Great Depression: Between Literature and Reality”. Our prominent speakers tried to take a journey in the wealth of literature and discuss economic realities for yesterday, today, and the future with the participants through highlighting the focal areas in the book The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Our speakers were:
- Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Fadil, Professor of Economics, Cairo University
- Dr. Areeg Ibrahim, Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Helwan University
Film Screening:
As part of the BIG READ Egypt/US series of events, the Egyptian Association for Educational Resources (E-ERA) organized a special and outstanding movie night to watch “The Grapes of Wrath” film. This special gathering was on March 22nd, 2009 in E-ERA office where many BIG read members attended the night and shared in creating a special and interesting environment.
Arts Competition
:
One of the main activities of BIG READ project is “Arts day for children”. We organized this day with the Cancer hospital 57357 on the 22nd March, 2009.
The Arts day consisted of two parts; the first one was a brief explanation to the kids about the main themes of the book “Grapes of Wrath”. The second was trying to encourage the students to draw what they learnt on Art Murals. We tried to stress that a person needs to be patient and hopeful in his life to be able to reach what he wants. The children were able to draw what they were able to imagine which had a great positive influence on them. At the end we distributed different gifts which were some colors and Art copybooks.
